Assembly speaker does not approve Suvendu’s resignation

West Bengal Assembly Speaker Viman Banerjee said on Friday that he has not accepted the resignation of Trinamool Congress MLA Suvendu Adhikari as it is not in conformity with the provisions of the Constitution and the rules of the House. Banerjee mentioned that the officer did not personally hand over the resignation letter to her.

He said that he does not know whether the officer’s move is voluntary and genuine. He said, until I am satisfied that the resignation is voluntary and genuine, it is not possible for me to accept it in the light of the provisions of the Constitution of India and the rules of functioning in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly.
