Ashok Leyland Shares Surge After Sales Jump 14% In December

Shares of commercial vehicle maker Ashok Leyland rose as much as 4.2 per cent to hit an intraday high of Rs 99.45 on the BSE after the company informed exchanges that its total sales rose 14 per cent to 12,762 units in the month of December.

The Chennai-based truck and bus maker in a stock exchange filing said that its sales of medium and heavy commercial vehicle (M&HCV) truck sales rose 58 per cent to 6,235 units while M&HCV bus sales declined 79 per cent 649 units on a year-on-year basis in December. Its large commercial vehicle sales rose 42 per cent to 5,682 units.

Cumulatively, Ashok Leyland’s domestic sales and exports fell 43 per cent to 56,657 units in calendar year 2020.

As of 2:41 pm, Ashok Leyland shares traded 3.77 per cent higher at Rs 99, outperforming the Sensex which was up 0.42 per cent.
